Hi, I am looking for some help getting FinalPlug5 to present itself in my Cubase LE 4.

I have ensured the Wave Arts Folder is in the VST plugins folder in the Cubase file folder.  I’ve “run as administrator” as advised in the announcement regarding Windows 7 (my current OS).  I have tried downloading free plug-ins as a test and they all work. 

And yet no mention of Wave Arts or FinalPlug5 will appear in the plug-ins.

Interestingly enough, one time I tried removing the folder and leaving just the Application Extension file (because that is all there is with the successful plug-ins) and Cubase couldn’t open because it couldn’t find the Wave Arts graphics.  It clearly recognizes what is in the Wave Arts folder because it opens fine with the entire folder.  So why won’t it present itself in Cubase?

Do I need to import it to Cubase somehow?  Is there a patch to make it work on Windows 7?

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

That is correct.  Neither shutting it down, nor clicking update bring it over.  I have now downloaded and imported 10 plug-ins and the only one I have this issue with is FP5.  As I said before, I find the whole thing fascinating since it recognizes when it doesn’t have all that it needs (Cubase won’t even open, keeps giving me an error that it can’t find something), and opens fine when everything is there.  It just doesn’t show up as a plug-in.

I uninstalled Cubase and tried installing on the older version of LE 4 (from 2007), I tried installing after doing the Steinberg update (from 2008).  I uninstalled FP5 several times.  I tried putting the entire WA folder into the VST folder, I tried putting just the FP5 folder in.  Nothing.

On my work computer it worked the very first time.  As far as I can tell, the only difference is the OS, work is XP home is Win7.

We’re heading out to NAMM so I’ll need to get back to this later, but in the meantime,  do you happen to be running Windows 7 as 64 bit?  If so, does trying the 64 bit beta of our plug-ins help?  (see the announcements threads on this forum)

You will have to forgive my ignorance.  I really don’t understand the question.  I know how to familiarize myself with programs by searching the web, but when it comes to computer fundamentals, I am still quite uninformed.

EDIT:  I searched the site and found some things that I can look into.  Thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a try.

I figured out my problem.  The Wave Arts installation creates two WA folders, one directly on the C drive and one inside Program files (x86).  The FP5 folder inside the latter has all the graphic files so I figured that was the appropriate one, and was proven “correct” by it working on my XP computers. 

When it wouldn’t show on W7 I did investigate the other folder and found it only contained a single application extension.  Because I had success with other plug-ins where only the app ext was needed, I copied only the file and note the folder (thinking the folder wasn’t necessary since it only contained the single file) and brought it over the the VST folder.  Of course this was unsuccessful.

I was playing around again and this time I brought over the entire folder and it shows now.  Apparently the language of the program relies on seeing the folder and not just the file.  Thanks for the help.  FP5 is fabulous and I recommend it to all my friends.

Sorry for now providing more details regarding 64 bit.  We have a beta version of our plug-ins that work natively on 64 bit operating systems like Vista and Windows 7 and should put the plug-in files in the correct places (which you also achieved by moving things around manually).  In 64 bit Windows, there is a Program Files folder for 64 bit applications and one for older 32 bit apps - Program Files (x86) - so that’s where potential confusion can result when running 32 bit installers.
