Weird preset behavior

I made a new user account in OSX for the sole purpose of beta testing. When I run a RTAS or AU instance of trackplug, I get a dialog that says “Could not create new User preset file” with the choices No, Yes and Cancel. Selecting any of these options continues the instantiation process and the next time the dialog comes up is any time the preset selection buttons are used.

i thought it was a permissions problem at first but I’m not sure where presets are stored.

thanks in advance for any help.

OK so I’ve found the presets in OSX stored in /Library/application support/Wavearts/, and the permissions for all of the folders are read/write for admin group, which the new account is part of (the new acct has admin privilages). In the manual, it says a text file is created in the same directory where the plugin resides (I’m assuming for user presets?), but I didn’t find any text files in the corresponding Protools plugin directory (/Library/ApplicationSupport/Digidesign/Plug-ins) or components folder either at root or at the user level. In any case, I’m going to poke around a little more today.

<edit>

Just tried another admin acct on the same computer and Audio Hijack Pro, same result. Did a little more digging and the permissions for the actual preset file are set such that alteration is only possible under the user account which installation took place. gonna futz with this a little and report back.

...and that did the trick. Changing permissions for each preset file to read/write for everyone.

Rob, I know it’s not standard that users have multiple accounts on the same machine running the same software. But in a case where lets say i share a studio with another producer and we have seperate user accounts to keep our prefs seperate, i could see where this could be problematic. Is there a way to fix this at the installer level?

Thanks..

Thanks for the info, yes, it wouldn’t be hard to change the installer behavior for our next update to set read/write for everyone.

Happy new year…
