Hi Wave Arts,
New guy question again. I just picked up a locense for Trackplug after trying the demo out (plus the Summer Sale is on!) - it sounds very interesting to me.

I’m not getting AMG - I guess I’ll just blurt this out…is it broken in 4.12?
It doesn’t seem to make an audible difference if I have it switched in or not. Maybe I misunderstand what it does - we could start there!

Thanks for the help,
Kyle

The best way to understand AMG is looking at the dynamics graph to the right when it is enabled or disabled.

When it’s on, you see that the orange ball that represents the output attenuation when the input is 0 dB stays the same when threshold or ratio are changed.  When AMG is off, this does not happen.

Auto Makeup Gain (AMG) — When enabled, the compressor will automatically add an internal makeup gain to the signal so that the output level corresponding to 0dB input stays constant while changing the threshold and/or the ratio. If the signal becomes too hot, however, you can lower the Compressor Gain. When AMG is disabled, the Compressor Gain will function as a manual makeup gain.

Plus, let me add that the AMG control is going away in future versions. Instead it will be a right-click (or shift-click) that will change the anchor point when clicking and dragging on the dynamics curve. Thus you’ll be able to quickly adjust threshold, ratio, and makeup gain all with a single mouse operation.

Thanks guys - I get it now. Some plugins calculate where the gain ‘should’ be (based on an assumption by the plugin) as soon as you hit the button - I guess I was used to that. I like the idea of just setting an anchor…good stuff. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a botton or a right-click! Thanks Kyle
