CPU load in DP5

I’ve just downloaded the Master Restoration demo suite and I’m using Digital Performer 5 as the host. I have a dual 1GHz G4 running OS 10.4 with 2GB of RAM.

I’m finding that the MR Noise reduction plug in causes a huge drain on the CPU and, not surprisingly, the Master Restoration plug in batters it even more.

Is my setup just too underpowered to run these plug ins with any ease?

Thanks.

The noise reduction algorithms are optimized for Intel based computers.  What sample rate are you using, and does increasing buffer size help?

Hi Rob,

Many thanks for the reply.

I’m at 48 kHz. Increasing buffer size does help, but I have found that it’s the graphical display that takes most of the power. If I set it and then close the plug-in interface then I get most of my clock cycles back again. This means that I can work quite well by using the individual plug-ins, rather than the combined one, and opening the interface to each one just to tweak the settings.
