I have a problem with selecting the HRTFs in Panorama 5.40. Latest version, just downloaded it to make sure. I am using the demo version at the moment. I would upgrade but I need this issue sorted first.
The problem is as follows:
Within Adobe Audition, Panorama (both VST and DX) only shows Human and MIT Kemar, nothing else.
Within Winamp and FFX4, if I activate the Panorama control panel before loading a file, I see several CIPIC HRTFs. When I start playing the file, I cannot switch HRTFs, it then displays garbage instead of HRTF names, and Winamp generally crashes shortly after.
I would really like to be able to experiment with different HRTFs. Is there a fix or a workaround for this problem?
Can you double check that in your Program Files/Wave Arts/Panorama folder there is an hrtf folder in there?
If so, the path in the registry for finding the folder may be wrong, or you can try installing the new Power Suite 5.47 beta (see the announcements thread). If you are comfortable using the Registry program I can help you through the steps.
I’ve checked the directory: there a a PanoramaHRTFs directory in there, with the CIPIC HRTF files. (note that i do see them occasionally, so the path appears correct at least to begin with)
I tried to reinstall using Powersuite 5.47. Makes no difference. (although only the VST plugins seem to work, the DX seem to have vanished?).
A quick look in the registry shows nothing looking strange, but if you could let me know what values are supposed to be in there, I can go and check.
Please try downloading the 5.47 beta again, I tried to fix the problem with DX disappearing.
There sound be a registry entry under HKLM->SOFTWARE->Wave Arts->Panorama called PresetPath that points to the Program Files/Wave ARts/Panorama directory, this is how it finds the HRTF files.
I tried to download the new 547 exe, but I get a 403 error, although i’m logged in. I can download other files with no problem, maybe there is a access rights problem?
BTW the registry entry is there for PresetPath for Panorama, the path appears to be correct.
I’ve now downloaded the latest file and installed it, thanks for fixing the problem.
Not much luck I’m afraid: the HRTF problem is still there in the VST plug-in, and the DX plug-in is not working: The Waveart DX effects are still listed in the unsupported tab in Audition.
One more thing: it seems the new installer file for 5.47 only reinstalled the DX plug-ins at best, not the VST ones. When I uninstalled the old 5.40, the VST plug-ins disappeared.
In short:
I uninstalled everything, then reinstalled 540: VST plug-ins appears, DX plug-ins unsupported, HRTF problem is there. I then installed 5.47, no improvement.
Can you try downloading 5.47 once again? I uploaded new installers that hopefully will resolve the DX issue.
It is strange that DX would be “unavailable” even with 5.40- that installer has been available for a long time and hasn’t caused problems like this before.
In the PresetPath registry entry, is there a “/” at the end of the path?
Yes I do not know what is going on with the DX plug-ins.
They used to work fine until I started fiddling with 5.47.
Now they are just gone: they are listed as unsupported, I can install/uninstall as much as I want, nothing changes.
I’ll see if I can reinstall Adobe Audition see if it takes care of it.
In the meantime, registry gives this values for PresetPath:
C:\Program Files\Wave Arts\Panorama\
You have unwittingly been lured into testing our new 5.47 installer - thanks for that! Like Rob, I’m not sure why the 5.40 re-install didn’t correctly replace your DX plugs, and I’ve just now tested 5.47 and the DX install seems fine. Perhaps Audition has a blacklist of defective plugs? If so, there’s usually a way to rescan. I’m not familiar with Audition.
But onto my point. The HRTF menu getting corrupted, followed by a crash, is giving me a deja-vu feeling. There was some flakiness about that which I thought we fixed long ago. We’ll try to reproduce it here.
I tried installing the Adobe Audition 3 trail on my computer, and after scanning the VST and DX plug-ins, everything seems to work fine (at least with 5.47)... the DX plug-ins show up and I can access all the HRTF options.
Are you having the HRTF problem just with Audition now?
I uninstalled version 5.47, 5.40, and Adobe Audition 3.0.
I reinstalled AA 3.0, then 5.47.
Result: Wavearts effects only appear as unsupported DX, and no sight of the VST ones.
I installed version 5.40: the Wavearts VST effects appear, and work, apart from the HRTF which can only be Kemar and Human.
When I try it in Winamp: I can use the Wavearts DX effects. HRTF problem is still there though: when a file is loaded I can only access human and Kemar. Before a file is loaded I can select the CIPIC, but they disappear from the selection once I load a file. And winamp often crashes when I try to change HRTFs around.
Overall: I got the same problems as before, they are not just linked to Adobe Audition since Winamp behaves strangely, and I have no clue why it works with your setup and not mine.
I tried to patch AA using the latest 3.0.1 patch, no help.
Is there anything else I could do to try to diagnose this problem? All suggestions welcome.
Sorry about the problems, I’m having trouble trying to reproduce it. Do you happen to have any other hosts you can try, such as MiniHost to see if there is some host that actually works? That might help narrow down the problem.
Thanks for your help with this.
I’ve just tried Minihost as suggested.
Initially it seems fine, however after a minute or so playing around with the controls, the same problem occurs: when clocking on the HRTF button, all the CIPIC have disappeared, instead I get a blank name, or sometimes garbage (random letters and symbols).
This is similar to the previous problem in Winamp, where the problem would start only when a file was loaded.
Hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else you want me to try.
