Hi

I’ve recently got a lot of really loud digital beeps and crackles from my Trackplug 5.47. I’ve solved this a few tims by just trashing the trackplug prefs file, and then unlocked the plugin again. This seemed to have worked for a little while, but now I get the noise more and more frequenly (upto several times a day). I’m om Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Pro Tools LE 7.3.1. Any idea what this could be?

regards

Odd Jensen

Now I brought the session back home to test it on my other mac, and it sounded fine…..

I have exactly the same problem: The white noise comes up randomly and almost destroyed my speakers. Beeps too.

I have a Macbook Pro 2.33 Ght with Logic 9 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1

Are there any settings in TrackPlug that result in the problem happening?  Does Vintage vs. Clean mode in the compressors make a difference?  Which modules are active when it is making these noises?

I used one of the attached selfmade 3 presets in Logic.
Don’t know which one exactly it was cause after the noisebursts
did not stop, I stopped to use trackplug.

P.S. : The file upload does not work for me, so i will post it to you by email.

Only EQ, Comp1 and Limiter is in use. The limiter peak window now shows a red 676 dB peak (!). At the moment it seems to work using “clean” instead of “vintage”. Another strange thing: when it gets noisy, if I put the track in “solo” it immediately sounds nice and clean and when I drop the rest of the tracks in it starts crackling again…

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Given the severity of this problem we are most definitely trying to figure it out, but we haven’t been able to reproduce the problem here. The few reports we have suggest it only happens when using the vintage compressor mode on Intel Macs. So for now the quick workaround is to switch to the clean compressor. It’s very puzzling that it starting occuring recently with no apparent changes to the DSP code.

For anyone that encounters this issue, It would be most helpful to send us the preset that was active when the problem occured (so we know the exact settings) and also if possible a snippet of audio with the noise may offer clues. Plus of course, the host app, OS version, and machine info. And, was the audio mono or stereo, and were sidechains active (the preset would tell us that).

Your report that the peak was over 600 dB certainly suggests that the audio is being pulled from a part of memory containing binary data that is not audio. Not good.

Thanks for your patience,

Bill

Thanks for your quick reply! Since this is very random its hard to be specific on the details. The last couple of days I’ve been working for hours on sessions with a lot of Trackplugs without a glitch, and then suddenly at the end of the day there it is.. I’m attaching a pic of one example. This one is mono, but it also occurs on stereo tracks.

Thanks. Nothing unusual with your compressor settings. We’ve tried again today to reproduce with no luck. We don’t yet know for sure it is a problem with TP or with Pro Tools or Mac OS. There are reports on other forums of noise burst issues not related to TP. We’ll keep working on it.

I’ve put up a new beta of Power Suite 5.49 which includes new peak indicators in TrackPlug.  This will tell you the max signal level entering each enabled compression module, which will reveal if the noise is being fed into TrackPlug or coming from inside it.  Feel free to try it and see what happens when running in Vintage compression mode.  If you get a noise burst, look for red clip indicators and send us a screenshot if you can.

I was now able to bounce a simple voice session with a lot of noise and clips. Is there a mail address I can send it to?

Yes, send it to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), thanks!

Did you use the 5.49 beta and see the clipping indicators?

Also, it would be helpful to know the preset you used- you can save it using the Save As feature in the Tools menu of the plug-in, then send us the TrackPlug 5 Presets.tx file in /Library/Application Support/Wave Arts/TrackPlug folder.

Here’s an update for those who may be following this thread. An examination of the corrupted sound shows that the noises are not random binary data but appear to be due to bursts of very high gain applied to the existing sound. We’ve prepared a special TP version that checks the internal gains and dumps lots of debug information in a file when things seem wrong, but so far the problem has not occurred when using the special trace version.

If you think you are having this problem please contact us on the forum or at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Thanks,

Bill

It happened to me before too but now everything’s fine and nothing like that happened to my trackplug.
